Gene Expression Center logo The UW Gene Expression Center, located in the state-of-art Genetics/Biotechnology Building at 425G Henry Mall, Room 3450, has been established as part of the Genome Center of Wisconsin and the UW Biotechnology Center. The Center will provide researchers with services for large-scale gene expression studies. The Center focuses on three state of the art technologies that allow the study of a variety of genomic functions: NimbleGen arrays, Affymetrix GeneChip arrays, and DNA microarrays.

Roche NimbleGen / UW-Madsion Preferred Access Agreement

on-line survey: Here

Tell us about your experience with the Roche NimbleGen / UW-Madison preferred access agreement by October 31, 2008 by participating in 5-10 minute on-line survey.  All current and potiential users of the NimbleGen technology are asked to participate to enable us to better meet and serve your current and future array needs.

Online equipment scheduling is now available

NimbleGen Arrays:  Roche NimbleGen array technology offers researchers customized high-density microarray products with unprecedented flexibility for genomics research. NimbleGen's Maskless Array Synthesis (MAS) technology combines digital light processing and rapid, high-yield photochemistry to shorten array fabrication time from months to hours. Roche NimbleGen's MAS technology offers a unique ability to make high-density arrays of long isothermal probes for advanced genomic analysis methods such as CGH, ChIP-chip, microbial resequencing, DNA methylation, and gene expression . The Gene Expression Center offers  all levels of support for Roche NimbleGen products: cDNA synthesis, full template labeling and hybridization, independent instrument access, and training for all NimbleGen application methods.

A NimbleGen System is available to support all NimbleGen application methods and application methods development.

Affymetrix GeneChips:  Affymetrix GeneChip technology provides efficient access to genetic information using high-density oligonucleotide probe arrays.  Affymetrix manufactures their arrays by employing technologies adapted from the semiconductor industry, photolithography and solid-phase chemistry.   These arrays contain hundreds of thousands of unique oligonucleotide probes that are designed to maximize sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.  An Affymetrix GeneChip Analysis System is available for a variety of functional genomic studies performed with any Affymetrix GeneChip. The Center now offers two options for using this system:  Full GeneChip Labeling & Hybridization Service and Hybridization and Scanning Service .

DNA microarrays:
The Center offers equipment and expertise for printing and analyzing custom DNA microarrays on glass microscope slides. The Center can create slides with up to 20,000 spots arrayed on each slide.  The Center possesses an automated high precision robot, two multicolor fluorescence scanners, and the expertise of staff to assist with all array based experiments.   Access to the scanners is available after satisfactorily completing training by one of the Center's specialists.  Investigators interested in having the Center print custom DNA microarrays can contact the Center Director for more information.

The Gene Expression Center's Advisory Committee Members are Audrey Gasch (Laboratory of Genetics), Michael Newton (Department of Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics) Jeff Johnson (School of Pharmacy) and Alan Attie (Department of Biochemistry).
